Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain (born March 29, 1981) is an American film and television actress

But what changes come upon the weary desert of our culture, so darkly described, when it is touched by the magic of Dionysus! A storm seizes everything decrepit, rotten, broken, stunted; shrouds it in a whirling red cloud of dust and carries it into the air like a vulture. In vain confusion we seek for all that has vanished; for what we see has risen as if from beneath he earth into the gold light, so full and green, so luxuriantly alive, immeasurable and filled with yearning. Tragedy sits in sublime rapture amidst this abundance of life, suffering and delight, listening to a far-off, melancholy song which tells of the Mothers of Being, whose names are Delusion, Will, Woe
Yes, my friends, join me in my faith in this Dionysiac life and the rebirth of tragedy. The age of Socratic man is past: crown yourselves with ivy, grasp the thyrsus and do not be amazed if tigers and panthers lie down fawning at your feet. Now dare to be tragic men, for you will be redeemed. You shall join the Dionysiac procession from India to Greece! Gird yourselves for a hard battle, but have faith in the miracles of your god!

Pasta Meat Sauce a la Stefano!

1/2 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
3/4 pound ground beef
Salt
1/2 cup white wine
2 cups chopped canned peeled tomatoes
1/3 cup grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese

Chop all ingredients into even, bite-size pieces or smaller.

For egg pasta dishes, reduce the sauce less, as egg pastas will absorb some of the liquid.

Directions:
1.
In a large saucepan, combine 1/2 cup chopped onion and 2 tablespoons each extra-virgin olive oil and butter over high heat. Cook until golden, then stir in 3/4 pound ground beef and cook for 5 minutes; season with salt. Add 1/2 cup white wine and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in 2 cups chopped canned peeled tomatoes with their juice, season with salt, bring to a simmer and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Add 1/3 cup grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese when tossing with pasta. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

For a sweeter, mellower sauce, cook chopped onions until softened in a combination of extra-virgin olive oil and butter for your base.

For a more pungent sauce, cook finely chopped garlic in extra-virgin olive oil until just golden.

Halibut in Foil Packets With North African Flavors

Halibut in Foil Packets With North African Flavors
Time: 30 minutes

2 preserved lemons
2/3 cup mixed olives, pitted
2 garlic cloves, sliced
1 teaspoon cumin seeds, lightly crushed
1 teaspoon coriander seeds, lightly crushed
4 halibut steaks, 1 1/4-inch thick, about 2 pounds
Salt and pepper
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Chopped coriander, optional.

1. Build a campfire and let it burn down until the embers glow; you don’t want flames to cook the fish. Otherwise, heat an oven to 400 degrees.

2. Quarter the preserved lemons. Slice away and discard the flesh and pith. Cut the remaining zest into strips and combine with the olives, sliced garlic, and cumin and coriander seeds.

3. Place each halibut steak in the center of a large double layer of aluminum foil. Fold up the edges slightly, then lightly season the fish with salt and pepper. Top with 1/4 of the olive mixture and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Bring the edges of the foil together and pinch them firmly to create an airtight seal. The packets can be made a few hours ahead and refrigerated.

4. Place the packets in the medium-hot embers of the fire, or if the fire is too fierce, on a rack above it. Leave to cook for 10 minutes or so, depending on the heat of the fire. The fish should feel just firm if prodded through the foil with a wooden spoon handle. Otherwise, cook in the oven for 15 minutes. Unwrap the packets carefully and scatter with chopped coriander, if you like.

Yield: 4 servings.

Last Year at Marienbad

"Last Year at Marienbad" (1961), directed by Alain Resnais, operates within a surrealist, puzzling narrative. Many critics have hailed it as a masterpiece, while audiences over the years have found it undecipherable and pretentious.

Engineering Challenge : Paper Boat Mentalrobics Article

Braingle: 'Engineering Challenge : Paper Boat' Mentalrobics Article: Engineering challenges are fun activities that are frequently assigned to students in physics or engineering classes, but they can easily be used outside of these venues. An engineering challenge usually has a simple goal and some rules about what sorts of materials you are allowed to use. These are great ways to get people thinking creatively and to foster teamwork and competition. Try an engineering challenge at a birthday party, office outing, scout meeting, or any other gathering where you want to have fun and exercise your creativity.

In the Paper Boat challenge, participants are asked to make a boat out of paper and a small amount of tape, glue or staples. Everyone should be using the same amount of materials. Each boat will be required to hold a small cargo (marbles, pencils, or little toy figurines work nicely). The boat that remains floating the longest is the winner. A variation of this challenge is to allow teams to use as much or as little paper as they want, but have a heavier cargo (a baseball or book). The lightest boat that can float the cargo for 1 minute is the winner.
