What an extraordinarily beautiful, unique voice of artistic creativity.
What a fundamentally flawed, troubled, and wounded human being. That the two can co-exist is perhaps an important lesson for 2023. I just listened to Troy from her debut album and her debut single. What other "pop" singer is going to reflect on modern feminism and modern life via Homer's Iliad. I am trying to imagine if Taylor or Harry has ever read the Odyssey. RIP Sinead - I will always listen to your art and reflect on how you lived your life.Wednesday, July 26, 2023

Another Shooting in Greektown and Olivia Chow rushes in to Explain this is not TO
Can't wait for the new mayor to weight in with bromides about how this does nor define TO when the whole world knows that in 2023 it actually does define TO.

Would - In Pride and Prejudice - Elizabeth would have married Darcy without his wealth?
The most common interpretation is that she would not have married him if he were poor. But the idea that "true love" would have triumphed is not far behind.
My fav interpretation arrives via Rachel Brownstein—who argues that Austen's ironical way of depicting Elizabeth suggests she is simultaneously a proto-feminist and a fairy-tale crown-chasing heroine and leaves it to the reader to sort out in their our mind.

Turtles All the Way Down and Quine on Truth by Convention
At the end of a public astronomy lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist replied "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young sir, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!"
How can someone be Trans and Non-Binary?
Ok - so let's unpack:
Trans: [adjective] denoting or relating to a person whose gender identity does not correspond with the sex registered for them at birth; transgender.
Non-Binary: relating to or being a person who identifies with or expresses a gender identity that is neither entirely male nor entirely female.
So how can you be trans and non-binary?
The national sports network of Canada produced a special recently: TSN Original: Authentically Quinn about the "mononym" Quin who was a girl and has now decided "they" are non-binary while also claiming to be trans all while playing on a women's soccer team.
Seriously - how can one possible cobble together a basic sentential argument for those three disparate elements? Be trans - play with the guys - be non-binary play with whoever you choose.
